  • Sergio Michel is an American musician, writer, producer, actor and director based out of the New York metro area. He is currently in production of the new album, Sergio Michel's Sorrowful Psalms, 'Uplifting Depressing Music' for release in 2010 with accompanying tour (additional dates TBA) and other interesting projects.
In 1998, Sergio became the front man of the popular NJ based metal group, Matranka. The band was well known in the area and had a large following, especially among teenagers. That same year, he started an internship at The Sally Jesse Raphael Show, while also broadcasting on 90.3FM out of Ramapo College as 'Psycho Surge' on the Mayhem In The A.M morning show (Host, Writer, Engineer) where he also conducted live on location interviews with regional and international rock bands. By early in the year 2000, Matranka had disbanded releasing a three song Demo named 'It Came From The Basement' and a popular album named 'Taking It By Force'.
In 2001, Sergio was enrolled at the Institute of Audio Research where he honed his skills as a recording engineer and graduated in 2002. He at the time, worked remotely and in Los Angeles with Senn Dogg(Cypress Hill), director Bill Yukich(Korn, Metallica, Paris Hilton), guitar tech Martin Connors(Slipknot) and Eric 'Whitey Ford' Schrody(Everlast, House Of Pain) as an artist and project development consultant. Later, in 2002, Sergio adopted the moniker 'Serge Magnarok' and formed the metal band Magnarok, and recorded it's debut album 'Self Induced Schizophrenia', which did well digitally and was covered in various magazines and fanzines world wide. The band toured with illusionist now Armenian Holocaust activist, Edward Garnigian on the 'Pics, Majik and Sticks Tour'. Shortly after, Sergio competed in The NJ NPC amateur bodybuilding circuit as a middle-weight. By 2004, Magnarok disbanded, and Sergio relocated to Jacksonville Florida, where he worked with Mindsweep Entertainment.
In mid 2004, Sergio relocated to South Florida and began working as an independent agent under 'The Sergio Michel Agency', and worked as a consultant with Ocean Talent Management in South Beach(Anna Nicole Smith, Miami Heat, Joe Luis). That same year, he played guitar in model Monika Gaba's, band for a time. He also had the privilege to work with world renowned luthier Larry Lashbrook(Yngwie Malmsteen) in Fort Lauderdale, being featured on 'The Lashbrook Experience' DVD playing the then highly classified and revolutionary Naturacoustic Piezo Pick Up. As an agent in South Florida, Sergio also worked with model now actress Cindy Iglesias, Canadian Singer Songwriter Rose Reiter, rapper Bizzy Bone (Bone Thugs N' Harmony), reggae artist Zion Judah, bodybuilder Craig Titus, Ramones tribute band Rock It To Russia, and establishments such as Club Deep and Amika Nightclub in South Beach, andThe Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, FL.
Returning to New Jersey in 2005, Sergio worked as a guitar technician for Metal Mike Clasiak (Rob Halford) as he performed both with Pain Museum and Sebastian Bach(Skid Rowe). He also worked as a casting consultant with Je' Ne' Sais' Quoi !? Entertainment, and moonlighted occasionally as a sound-man for Original Sessions, both out of New York City. In that same year, Sergio worked on material with Ugandan singer and activist Tempra Omona. Later on, Sergio released his first solo single, an adult contemporary ballad named 'Hey Eyes' which did very well digitally. The single garnered attention internationally and was featured on the popular French website and podcast, Music75. 'Hey Eyes' caught the attention of many new listeners and helped expand his audience and grow his career as a solo artist. Shortly after, Sergio caught the attention of Floyd Rose Guitars, and started officially endorsing their 'Speed-loader' bridge line. He was also the first artist ever sponsored by novelty T-Shirt company, Snorg Tees. This was followed by a sponsorship with Mills Acoustics, where Sergio endorsed their 'Afterburner 4x12' series guitar loud speakers. Klassik Lock cable locks also sponsored Sergio at the Time. Out Cry Magazine featured him and the single 'Hey Eyes' on their Interactive DVD Magazine that year. In 2006, after being friends for some time, Sergio got to work and write with singer Joe Lynn Turner (Deep Purple, Yngwie Malmsteen); and was featured in the Japanese (Joe Lynn Turner) Fanzine, The Voice of Reason. Sergio also wrote for popular Latin music TV show starring rapper Joel and Melanie Byron (Editor of The Source Latino), Da' Klick. He was also sponsored by WB Custom Pick Ups for their 'Heaven and Hell' pick up line, followed by his first major endorsement with CAD Microphones.
2007 was a very successful year for Sergio. He released his first independent Christian/Gospel CD, 'Cry Out', which brought a new message and a fresh sound. Like previous releases, Cry Out did well digitally, but outdid Sergio's previous efforts by being featured on various radio outlets, and expanding his web presence. Sergio that year, was the first Christian/Gospel artist featured on Say Now, was interviewed by GodsenD Magazine, the website Unsung Hero Revolution featured the song 'Cry Out', was the featured artist on New Christ City for the whole year, and was the featured artist on Faithitup now Christian.com for well over six months. He also secured another major endorsement with Dean Markley Strings. Sergio also started to write editorials monthly, and was published in Grace and Mercy Magazine, then The Gladiator magazine subsequently.
In 2008, Sergio appeared in the film Split Ends directed by actress/director Dorothy Lyman. He was also on the beta tested team for the revolutionary Moog Guitar. Later that year, Sergio got to speak at Stevens Technical Institute in Hoboken, NJ regarding recording engineering. Shortly following, The Institute of Audio Research interviewed Sergio for their Featured Alumni website. He got to work with Overloud in development of sound patches for the TH1 guitar processor. He also played guitar for a short time with Christian Rock group, Redeemer's Cross. In December, 2008, Sergio announced his retirement, only to return in 2009 after careful consideration, with the launch of a new production firm named Michel Media, while also working on his new musical release for 2010.
